Privacy Policy
Ours is a days-together counter for two people, with widgets and little notes you send each other. It is made by one independent developer, and it is built so that your data stays with you: on your iPhone and in your own iCloud.
What Ours stores
Only what you put into the app, plus a few records it needs to work:
- Your couple: your two names, the start date, the couple photo or two avatar photos and how they are cropped.
- Notes: text notes, drawings, photo notes, “thinking of you” taps and emoji reactions you and your partner send each other.
- Settings: widget and card styles, accent colour, app icon, reminder choices.
- Small technical records: one record per partner saying which partner you are, whether you have Ours Plus, whether note notifications are on and which app version you use; and a count of how many free drawings and photos you have sent.
Photos are resized when you add them. Ours looks for faces in a photo to centre it in the widget; this runs on your iPhone using Apple's built-in tools, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Where it lives
- On your iPhone, in storage shared only between the Ours app, its widgets and its notification extension.
- In your iCloud, when iCloud sync is on. It is on by default and can be turned off in Settings → Together while you are not paired. Ours uses Apple's CloudKit and writes to your private iCloud database, which only you can access. With sync off, data stays on this iPhone and in your iPhone backup.
- In a shared iCloud space, when you pair. The shared counter lives in the iCloud of the partner who sent the invitation and is shared with the one who joined, using Apple's iCloud sharing. Only the two of you can read or change it.
iCloud data is stored by Apple under the Apple Privacy Policy. The developer has no server and no access to your iCloud data: Apple's developer tools show the structure of the database, not anyone's records.
Notes are kept for 30 days, and at most the 50 newest. Older ones are removed from your iPhone, and your own older notes are removed from iCloud. Your partner's latest note stays on your widget until a new one replaces it.
Pairing with your partner
To invite your partner, Ours creates a one-time iCloud invitation link. You choose how to pass it on: as a link through the share sheet, as a QR code, or as a 6-digit code.
For the 6-digit code, Ours briefly saves one small record in the app's public iCloud database so your partner's iPhone can find the invitation. It holds only the invitation link, encrypted with a key made from your code, and an expiry time. No names, photos or notes. The code stops working after 15 minutes, and Ours deletes the record when it is used, cancelled, replaced or expired. Wrong guesses are rate-limited.
Notifications
Notifications are optional. There are two kinds:
- Reminders and milestones are scheduled on your iPhone. Nothing leaves the device.
- Notes and photo updates from your partner use iCloud notifications, delivered by Apple. The message Apple delivers is a short generic line with your partner's name, such as “Mia sent you something ♥”. Your iPhone then fetches the note from iCloud itself and shows a preview. Note contents never pass through any server of ours.
You can turn note notifications off in the app, and all notifications off in iPhone Settings.
Ours Plus
Ours Plus is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your name, Apple ID or payment details. The app only checks with Apple, on your iPhone, whether you own it.
When you are paired, whether you have Plus is written to your shared iCloud space, so your partner gets Plus too.
Camera and photos
- Camera: only when you choose to take a photo for your counter, widgets or a photo note. iOS asks your permission first.
- Photos: Ours uses Apple's photo picker, so it gets only the photos you pick, never your library. No photo-library permission is needed.
- Share cards and export files are created on your iPhone and go only where you send them through the share sheet or Files.
What we don't do
Ours has no accounts, no sign-in, no servers of its own, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking across apps or websites and no third-party SDKs. We don't sell, rent or share your data, because we don't have it. The app talks only to Apple: iCloud, the App Store and notifications.
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iPhone Settings, Apple may pass anonymous crash reports to us. If you email us, we see your message and email address and use them only to reply.
Export and delete
- Export: Settings → Data → Export data saves a file with your couple, settings and photos. Import replaces the data on this iPhone with such a file.
- Delete a note: you can delete your own notes; they disappear from your partner's iPhone too.
- Stop sharing or leave: in Settings → Together. Your partner loses access to the shared counter, and shared notes are cleared from the app.
- Delete couple: Settings → Data → Delete couple removes your names, photos and start date from your iPhone and from iCloud. If you sent the invitation, it is removed from your partner's iPhone as well.
- Delete the app: removes everything stored on this iPhone. To remove what is left in iCloud, open iPhone Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage, choose Ours and delete its data.
Your rights
Wherever you live, including under the GDPR and California privacy law, you have the right to access, correct, export and delete your data. With Ours you exercise these rights directly: everything is in the app and in your iCloud, and the tools above let you see, change, export or erase it. The developer holds no personal data about you, so there is nothing to hand over or delete on our side, but you are always welcome to write to us.
Children
Ours is made for couples and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If the app starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the effective date above will change.
